Ireland is famous the world over for its horse breeding and training. The climate (it has been known to get damp at times) and its fertile land produce lush and nutritious grass which results in rapid physical development of foals. There is also a widespread knowledge of horses. Almost everyone and their brother seems to be a genuine expert.
The two main counties for breeding and training world-class race horses are Tipperary and Kildare, each with famous stud farms with even more famous stallions. These studs are firmly at the top of the 'sport of kings', but the love of horses ripples on down from this 'Formula One' class to the more sedate, but equally enjoyable, 'family car' class. And every class in between is also catered for.
